Personalized massage therapy that helps you move and feel better
Whether your goal is pain relief, improved mobility, faster recovery, or simply taking time to recharge, every session is designed around you.I welcome all those seeking therapeutic massage, whether for post-operative healing support following joint replacement surgery, addressing neck or low back pain, TMJ pain, managing the pain of sports-related soft tissue injuries, maximizing sports performance by increasing flexibility and range of motion, or just reducing the stress of daily life in D.C. during these uniquely challenging times that we find ourselves living through. We all can use a good massage!

Every Session Is Personalized
I like to think of the care I provide to my clients in terms of having a toolbox containing an extensive collection of tools that enable me to work on a wide variety of problems.
I was a bicycle mechanic for a period of about 10 years throughout my teens and early twenties. In bike shops where I worked, we used universal tools such as pliers and screwdrivers, Allen keys and socket wrenches, as well as hammers and hacksaws. These tools enabled us to fix and adjust many different things. There were some things that required more specialized tools, however. In order to properly repair uniquely bicycle-specific parts, those more specialized tools were absolutely necessary.
Similarly, with regard to body work, having a toolbox that includes a wide variety of tools as opposed to a few basic, universal tools enables an experienced therapist to address a wider range of issues in the body.

"Magic hands"
I didn't realize when I chose Cary for my massage service that I actually chose a healthcare teammate and cheerleader. He genuinely wants his patients to live their best pain-free lives. Not only does he spend time assessing my pain points at each session, but he also shares exercises and tips for how to reduce pain and tightness between sessions. All of this is in addition to his magic hands. My body hasn't felt this great in such a long time!

How massage helps
Stress Relief & Relaxation
Give your body the chance to reset.
Stress affects more than your mood. It often shows up as muscle tension, headaches, fatigue, poor sleep, and reduced energy.
Relaxation massage uses gentle massage techniques to calm the nervous system, reduce physical tension, and help your body recover from the demands of everyday life.
Sports Performance & Recovery
Keep your body performing at its best.
Sports massage isn't just for elite athletes. It's for anyone who asks a lot of their body. If you’re into running, cycling, swimming, lifting weights, hiking, have been caught up in the pickleball craze, or simply take your dog on a long walk every day, regular massage can help improve recovery, reduce muscular fatigue, increase flexibility, and keep you moving more reliably and efficiently.
Pain Relief & Mobility
Move with less pain and greater ease.
Persistent muscular tension, restricted range of motion, and lingering painful conditions can make even everyday activities more difficult than they should be. Using a combination of neuromuscular massage therapy, sports massage techniques, active isolated stretching, and other specialized approaches, I'll work to reduce muscular tension, improve mobility, and decrease pain.
Primary Types of Massage I Use
Neuromuscular Massage Therapy, St. John Method (NMT)
A type of massage characterized by a very thorough and specific examination and treatment of soft tissues of the body. This technique is based on the interplay between the nervous system and the muscular system. Important principles considered in NMT are: ischemia, trigger points, nerve entrapment/compression, postural distortion, and dysfunctional biomechanics. Neuromuscular therapy is a very effective technique to address soft tissue pain and dysfunction.
In-office massage
Most appointments take place in my massage office at 4000 Albemarle Street NW, Suite 202, in Tenleytown, D.C., conveniently located just one-half block east of the Tenleytown Metro. It's a quiet, comfortable space where we can focus entirely on your care.
In-home massage
Prefer to stay home? For an additional charge, I also provide massage in the comfort of your own home for clients within my service area. I bring a portable massage table to work in an environment that is comfortable for you. Popular with DC power couples is what I call the tag-team visit, where neither spouse is left feeling jealous of the other because you both get a massage!
Workplace chair massage
Support the health and well-being of your team with on-site chair massage. Seated massage sessions are a great way to show appreciation to members of your staff after meeting an impossible deadline, or as a regular program to promote wellness and increase productivity among your staff.
Session pricing
Most clients choose a 90-minute session, which I’ve found provides the ideal amount of time for focused, thorough work without feeling rushed. Shorter and longer sessions are also available depending on your needs.
In-office massage sessions
60 minutes | $115
90 minutes | $160
120 | $210
At home

What to expect
During your first visit, we’ll go over the history form that you completed before arriving for your appointment. This informs me about the journey your body has been on and any concerns or issues that need to be addressed presently. I will usually do a postural examination which provides us with valuable information that can help identify sources of pain and soft tissue overload. The careful observations made during a good postural examination form the basis of the evaluation that will guide us during our work. Then:
1.
We start with a conversation
I'll ask how you're feeling, what has changed, and what you'd like to accomplish during your session.
2.
I tailor your session
From there, I build your session around what your body needs that day instead of following a predetermined routine. Every person is different, and every treatment should reflect that. As we work together, I'll explain what I'm noticing in clear, practical language.
3.
Moving forward
My goal isn't simply to help you feel better during your massage. I want you to leave with a better understanding of your body and practical ideas you can use between appointments to keep moving well.

"A talented and creative professional"
Cary Bland is a talented and creative professional. He expertly helped prepare me and recover from running the NY marathon. More recently, he has been instrumental in designing a "massage plus stretching regime" that has been enormously beneficial in addressing chronic hip and lower back pain.
He is gifted with incredibly strong yet sensitive hands. And is so easy to work with. I highly recommend him!
